KATHERINE ANDREW NUTRITION

Checking on Benefits

Insurance benefits can be confusing and overwhelming to navigate - at least we certainly think so! But the good news is that Nutrition Counseling is covered by many plans, and often much better than you might imagine. In fact, many of our clients have UNLIMITED coverage for visits. That means their insurance plan is covering 100% of our time together on calls.

Providers We Are Contracted With

We are currently in network with the plans listed below. If your plan isn't on this list, we won't be able to bill your insurance directly, but are happy to provide you with a Superbill if you would like to submit claims on your own. *All of our services are HSA, FSA eligible.

  • BCBS (Excluding Blue Home and UNC Alliance plans)
  • United Healthcare, UMR
  • Aetna
  • Cigna

Here are the Steps to Check on your Insurance Benefits

  1. Grab your Medical Health Insurance card and locate the Member ID and phone number on the back of the card.
  2. Tell them that You are hoping to work with a Registered Dietitian and want to know what your plan covers.
  3. Ask "Do you cover virtual medical nutrition therapy under these codes?"
    1. 97802 (initial assessment visit)
    2. 97803 (follow up visits)
  4. Ask "Does that coverage apply to these diagnosis codes?"
    1. Z71.3
    2. E66.3
    3. Sometimes, you can also try using the terms "MNT" and/or "preventative dietary counseling"
  5. If they say no to both, ask what diagnosis codes your plan WOULD cover.
  6. Ask what, if any, cost you will be responsible for. "Would I have a copay for these visits, and/or do I need to meet my deductible first?"
  7. Ask if there is a time or number limit to how many visits are covered. "How many visits would be covered per year? When does my calendar year begin and end? Is there a cap on billable minutes per session?"
  8. If the rep you speak with is not willing to tell you much, difficult to understand, or you suspect you might have gotten incorrect information, hang up and call back to speak with someone else
